Kids & Co Pre School Service Philosophy

Below is an extract from a full service philosophy, which is on display at the service

In relation to children, we will:

  • See children as unique in their own way and support their individuality through inclusion and respect of all individuals in the community.

  • Recognise, support, and advocate the rights of all children, frequently listening to their voices and feelings.

  • Become co-learners with children, following children’s ideas and valuing their knowledge.

  • Promote children’s health, nutrition, fundamental movement, and safe practices.

  • See children as capable individuals and encourage them to make choices, problem solve, and develop skills to feel socially included with their peers.

  • Promote learning through play, exploration, and spontaneous and intentional teaching.

  • Establish safe, happy, secure, caring and supportive relationships that are positive and fair to all children.

  • Encourage children to care for their well-being as they develop their own identities.

  • Recognise and encourage children’s development in self-help skills and take pride in their achievements.

  • Acknowledge family background and promote respect for diversity by providing meaningful experiences for individuals and groups of children.

  • Encourage children to make use of their imagination through varying forms such as the creative arts, music, fundamental movement, and inquiry-based learning.

  • Provide children with opportunities, adequate resources, and space to make choices, take appropriate risks, and think critically and independently about ways of being and knowing.

In relation to families, caregivers and the community, we will:

  • Take steps to develop positive partnerships with parents and families through mutually open communication, respect, inclusion, participation and decision-making.

  • Work in unison with families, external agencies and professionals to achieve the best possible start for children at Pre School and School

  • Actively communicate practices, while reaching out to collaborate with families, caregivers, and external agencies.

  • Acknowledge and show respect diversity and the cultural backgrounds of each family at the centre, and the local community.

  • Acknowledge the contributions and history of the Aboriginal Australians and First Nations peoples.

  • Understand and value the importance of each family or person’s knowledge as a primary caregiver.

  • Actively support, and engage to reflect our philosophy, procedures, policies, and quality improvement.

  • Promote, recognise, and celebrate sustainable practices in the natural environment and in the community.

  • Support and encourage input from the local and wider community, and sustain ongoing partnerships with them.

  • Engage together positively to foster a mentally healthy and cohesive community.

  • In relation to educating we will:

  • Provide highly qualified and skilled staff to support education and inclusion for all children.

  • Respect all staff as valued individuals, and encourage, support, and acknowledge their contributions and dedication to high-quality practices.

  • Offer support, and continual feedback to colleagues

  • Work together as a team in order to effectively engage in planning, programming, and reflection.

  • Collaborate with each colleague to ensure that expectations are known and daily practices are followed through consistently.

  • Strive to continually develop pedagogical practices and understandings through professional development, critical reflection, collaboration, and sharing of ideas about the curriculum delivery in accordance with the Early Years Learning Framework, and National Quality Standards.

  • Seek partnerships with leaders in early childhood and the community to implement new research and practices.

  • Support children’s interests and well being with family input to inform planning and practices.

  • Guide families towards a smooth transition to Primary School, which is in the best interests of the child, holistically.

  • Work closely with external agencies, health and education institutions, organisations, and government agencies to inform and support us through current research and practices. To develop pedagogical practices to support children’s holistic development, protect them, and stay updated in order to maintain our high standards of teaching, practices, and learning environment.

  • Engage in community collaboration, professional learning, and research.
